Telephone Fraud and Hacking (Phreaking)

The UK is now in the top 5 countries and joins Cuba, Philippines, Liechtenstein and India, which are being targeted by Hackers that attempt to dial into telephone systems and use the system to make calls to high value destinations.

Where telephone fraud and hacking is successful, it is the responsibility of the customer to pay the bill for the calls.

It is estimated that this type of hacking in the UK costs businesses £1.5 billion per year, which is 5 times the level of credit card fraud and an average per customer of £10,000.

The fraudsters have highly technical programmes that will search for telephones systems that are susceptible to being taken over by them and then take advantage of the system over the weekend and during bank holidays. Usually, the first time the company is aware of the fraud is when they receive a large invoice from their telephone provider. There are even instructions on the internet on how to infiltrate telephone systems.

Despite the frequency and size of the problem, many companies are unaware or don't understand the scale of the potential problem which can affect both ISDN and VOIP systems.

72% of UK companies spend money on securing their computer systems but only 21% spend money securing their telephone systems.

Trojan Communications Ltd is a Telecommunications Company serving the Midlands and specialises in providing the very latest Business Telephone systems for use with ISDN lines and Voip technology.

Trojan Communications was formed in 1997 and has developed high levels of expertise in all areas of telecommunications and security against hacking attempts, otherwise known as Phreaking, into business telephone systems.

Trojan Communications has developed a unique firewall system for use with telephone systems that use ISDN and Voip technology.

The firewall helps prevent access onto the telephone system by unauthorised organisations for the purpose of making calls. These calls are often made at night, during weekends and Bank holidays which allows them to mount up extremely high bills without being noticed.

The first time any business that has been hit by these hackers will know that it has happened is when they receive the invoice from their telecoms supplier. This can run into many £000‘s of pounds. In most cases, it is the responsibly of the business to pay the invoice.
